Extendmac releases Flow 1.1 for Mac OS X Leopard

October 31st, 2008

La Jolla, California - Extendmac is proud to announce Flow 1.1, an update to their award-winning FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, and .Mac client for Mac OS X. Presenting a gorgeous user interface, Flow streamlines both transferring and editing files by leveraging high-speed connections.

Armed with the belief that file-transfer should be both powerful and elegant, Flow brings the best of the Mac to managing server files and folders. By integrating with the latest OS X technologies, like Quicklook, Flow makes working remotely every bit as intuitive and natural as working locally with the Finder.

After uploading a file, the URL to the file on the web can be automatically copied to the clipboard for easy sharing. Flow also includes a powerful integrated editor, as well as support for editing in an external application of the user’s choice. Users may now specify a specific external editor to be used for a particular extension when editing externally.

When using the internal editor, code is colored for easier readability, and can be previewed using WebKit. Flow can suggest completions of HTML, CSS, and PHP elements, properties, and functions, respectively. To further enhance readability, Flow now includes “Bitstream Vera Sans Mono” as the default editor font.

Version 1.1 is a major update delivering many top-requested features, while substantially bettering both stability and polish. The application offers substantially better error-handling for all protocols, public iDisk support, as well as more secure WebDAV and MobileMe iDisk authentications.

Among Flow’s most requested new features is the ability to browse a local disk from within the sidebar. This eliminates the necessity to interface with the Finder for uploads and downloads.

The new version of Flow also sports custom Public Keys for SFTP. Connect to an SFTP server without specifying a password, and Flow will allow the user to select a public key to connect with. Flow 1.1 now offers Multi-touch Support. Users with a multi-touch trackpad can now use swipe-gestures to navigate around in Flow. Swiping left and right will move back and forward. Swiping up and down will navigate to the parent directory, or enter the selected directory.

New Feature highlights include:
* Local Browsing in the Sidebar
* Custom External Editors
* Custom Public Keys for SFTP
* Public iDisk Support
* Substantially better error-handling for all protocols
* WebDAV and MobileMe iDisk now use digest authentication
* New editor font: Bitstream Vera Sans Mono
* Multi-touch Support

Minimum Requirements:
* Mac OS X Version 10.5 Leopard or later

Get the Best Out of Your IPhone

October 30th, 2008

Apple iPhone 3G has taken the world by storm and while the wave of excitement hasn’t yet died down, many users want to get the best out of their phones. There are many tips and tricks through which you can increase the productivity of your phones.

The 1st tip is the use of dotcom key. The iPhone helps to type .com very easily while typing a web address. This really helps to save a lot of time but the ultimate time saver is when you click on the .com button a little longer, you would get a pop up list of alternative domains like .edu, .net and .org to select from while typing a web address. Another time saver is by tapping twice on the spacebar, you can quickly enter a full stop.

The 2nd tip is keyboard related productivity that can be derived from your Apple iPhone 3G. You can change a small letter to a capital letter by holding on to the shift key and then sliding your finger on the letter that needs to be changed. The phone also has a CAPS LOCK key which can be set by configuring your handset. In the phone menu, go to settings /general /keyboard and enable the caps lock function. To use this shortcut you have to double tap the shift key and the caps lock function would be active.

The 3rd tip would be to save the most important part of your Apple iPhone 3G - the battery life. Apple iPhone 3G can really be power hungry due to so many added gizmos functionalities that run simultaneously. You can add more life to your battery by temporary turning off the 3G connection when you are not using it and revert to EDGE (2G) or GPRS connection. You can also outsmart your Apple iPhone 3G by fooling the handset’s ambient light sensor that is located above the earpiece which uses less power by reducing the display light of the screen when held in a dark environment. All you need to do is hold your finger over the ambient display light and save some more of your phone’s battery.

The 4th tip is if you want a bigger keyboard, all you need to do is flip the phone into a horizontal position and tap the Safari browser address bar before you begin browsing and you would have a wider keyboard. In case while using your phone, any application gets frozen then you can simply press and hold the Home button for approximately 6 seconds and the application would close.

The 5th tip would be, if you want to change the language to French or German or you want to type some text in foreign words, you just need to hold and slide your finger on the letter key and a list of accented alternatives would appear.

Although you might find these tips in the manual but not many of us have the time to go through the entire manual and miss out on most of the tips and tricks that can help us use our Apple iPhone 3G more efficiently. Hope these tips would help you use your phones easily and efficiently.

A Ton of Tunes on iPhone

October 27th, 2008

Before, to be able to listen to your favorite music while you are on the road, you would need to carry around a CD player with you. Remember the time when you used to carry your bulky CD player? And yes of course, do you also remember how much time it took for you to choose the CD’s that you’d be playing while on the go? Such a hassle right?

But that was like several years ago when an Apple iPod or iPhone was not yet available in the market. And yes, those days are gone now… with the Apple iPhone around, you will have all of your favorite music right there at your fingertips.

Apple made it easy for you to find and add tons of tunes on your iPhone. With a single tap, you can quickly browse through your playlists, albums, artists, or songs. If you are also an Apple iPod user, then downloading tunes on your iPhone is much easier. To download music onto your iPhone from the internet, you will need to be connected to the Internet. It would be a great help if you have a really good broadband connection but dial up will certainly do. Music downloads are much smaller than movies, and once you have downloaded a track one time, it’s yours to keep. You may listen to it as many times as you like without downloading it again.

If you want to play a song but you can’t remember its title, you could think of the album name and find it on your iPhone through an iPhone feature called Cover Flow. The Cover Flow is a feature of iTunes that lets you browse through your iTunes library and looking at album covers, rather than text. And yes, this feature is also available on your iPhone.

Singing along with your favorite music is great especially if you are completely sure of the right lyrics. If you have added the songs with iTunes, you can have the lyrics displayed right there on the screen. But there’s a cool iPhone application called TuneWiki that provides music lyrics direct to your iphone, for free. TuneWiki is a self service lyrics-to-music playback synchronizing utility and related services. It opens your own music file, goes to the Internet to try to find lyrics via a simple search. When you listen to the music it shows the lyrics in step with the music. Almost like having a karaoke machine right there in front of you all the time.

There are a lot of places for the iPhone users to download music. But make sure to download from websites that are free of viruses and spyware, especially when you are downloading the music for free. If you own an Apple iPhone, you don’t have to bring that bulky CD player anymore. All you have to do is to tap on your iPhone. With your iPhone… your music is ready to play as you are ready to listen.

Do you like karaoke? If you love to sing along with your favorite song but the words elude you, no worries, as long as you downloaded the music from iTunes, you can have the words appear right there on the screen. It’s not a phone; it’s a personal karaoke machine, compliments of your iPhone. It really doesn’t get any better than this.

Wait a minute, you don’t have an iPhone? Where can you get one? Go to any AT&T store, they will have them. On the other hand, you can get them online. These phones may be smart, but they are quite expensive. Be sure to check for bargains no matter where you shop. In addition, take the time to get insurance on them. If they break you want AT&T to foot the bill, not you. If you are not an AT&T customer, see if they will give you a good deal on an iPhone if you switch over to their service. The cell phone business is extremely competitive, so be sure to bargain and haggle with them. You will be surprised at what might happen. If you want your music on the go with the Apple iPhone, then you are going to need and iPhone to be on the go with.
