I've tried this (being the most recommended method). It has not worked - the screen just appears grey with no change. My mac died about 3 weeks ago and there is no local mac store available.

When I attempt to re-start the (macbook pro) is reaches to the point of having a basic grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning gear. It just spins without any other change.

Any advice?

Good blog post. I've got to say though that in terms of operating systems, I am still old school and usually go with ones that have had the bugs ironed out for a couple years, what about you?
